The Performativity of Metaplay in Emergent Technology Design
13/02/2006

"Throughout the 20th Century the word ³play² became increasingly important in design to describe both working styles and a quality of designed objects. Designers now actively seek to be playful and employ approaches to design practice that attempt to foster playfulness. But the literatures of play research firmly define play as intrinsically autotelic. As such it cannot be intentionally harnessed for the production of value artifacts." (Stuart Nolan)

mission statement
The Emergent Objects Design and Performance Research Cluster brings together researchers and practitioners from robotics, performance, new media, digital arts and urban regeneration to investigate the role that performance knowledge could play in relation to understanding design, the practice of designing and its outcomes.
